My friend Peg told me that there was a casting call for a movie called “Into the West.” My intuition told me that it’s time to get back into acting and to start auditioning for films. So, I went for it today.
When I got to the Radisson Hotel, I was amazed at the long line of people waiting. I had no idea that so many people would turn out. I got in line and filled out the paperwork they gave me and then waited. It was about 2 hours before I finally got in the door.
The people there were interesting. Some came dressed in costume. Others, like me, just came in street clothes. I wonder if that makes any difference. I talked to some people who have been in films before and some who haven’t.
As the line was moving, someone came and took certain people out of line – people with agents and Native Americans, specifically. I wonder if that means they were being given jobs.
When I got inside, they took my measurements, took the card I had filled out, asked me if I was in good condition, and took a Polaroid photo of me. The photographer said he thought I had a good look for the film and should at least get a role as a shopkeeper or something. That was encouraging. They told me not to get discouraged if I didn’t hear anything for a while because they would be shooting from January all the way into May. Does that mean “Don’t call us; we’ll call you?”
As I was leaving, people were asking other people if they’d gotten a job. Maybe some of the people were chosen right there on the spot. I wasn’t. We’ll see what comes of this – if anything.
